Gastro-intestinal diseases and practical endoscopy workshop
Tilmeldingsfrist: 3. juni 2027
This course provides a combined theoretical and practical wetlab approach to the diagnosis, investigation, and management of chronic enteropathies in small animals. Through structured lectures and hands-on training, participants will learn how to approach chronic gastrointestinal cases, work through key differentials, and classify chronic enteropathies.
The course covers appropriate diagnostic pathways, including evaluation of extra-gastrointestinal causes, use of GI biomarkers, and primary intestinal investigations, with detailed guidance on when to perform biopsies, how to obtain them (endoscopic vs surgical), and how to interpret histopathology results. Species-specific challenges; particularly distinguishing feline chronic inflammatory enteropathy from low-grade gastrointestinal lymphoma; are addressed, alongside an update on the role of the microbiome in GI health and disease.

Se kursusbeskrivelseManagement strategies are discussed in depth, including dietary therapy, feeding tube placement and refeeding of anorectic patients, treatment of protein-losing enteropathies, immunosuppressive and microbiota-modulating therapies, and the specific management of granulomatous colitis. Prognosis and long-term case management and client communication are integrated throughout.
The practical wet lab component focuses on the basics of flexible gastrointestinal endoscopy, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience with equipment handling and maintenance, foreign body removal, and endoscopic biopsy techniques to support real-world clinical application.
